Author's Day with Omar Mohamed
Author’s Day with Omar Mohamed
This week, we had the honor of welcoming Omar Mohamed from Refugee Strong to campus for Author’s Day!
Omar is the co-author of When Stars Are Scattered, a National Book Award finalist that tells the moving true story of his childhood in the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya. Our students had the incredible opportunity to hear firsthand about his journey, the power of storytelling, and how education transformed his life.
During his visit, Omar spoke about the impact of small acts of kindness, encouraging students to use their voices to create change. He reminded them that even the smallest efforts can make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
He also shared his ongoing work with Refugee Strong, the nonprofit he founded to support and empower children living in refugee camps. Through this organization, Omar provides educational resources and opportunities to students who might not otherwise have access, ensuring that learning remains a source of hope and possibility.
His visit was an inspiring reminder that no matter where we come from, we all have the ability to uplift others and be a force for good. Thank you, Omar, for sharing your story and mission with our community!
