Celebrating Our 8th Graders: Reflecting on High School Acceptances

Celebrating Our 8th Graders: Reflecting on High School Acceptances

March was an exciting month for our 8th graders, as they received their high school admissions decisions—an incredible milestone that marks the next step in their academic journeys. We are so proud to share that 90% of our graduating class was admitted to one of their top two choices!

This year, our students received acceptances to some of the most respected high schools in the Bay Area, including Crystal Springs, Nueva, Menlo, Sacred Heart, Lick-Wilmerding, Woodside Priory, St. Ignatius, St. Francis, Serra, Notre Dame, Mercy, and schools within the San Mateo Union High School District, among others. Their hard work, curiosity, and dedication have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead.

But amidst the excitement and anticipation, we also recognize that this time can be filled with big emotions. That’s why we have a longstanding tradition at Episcopal Day: Connection & Reflection Day. This special day, intentionally scheduled to coincide with private high school decision week, gives our 8th graders the opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate their Episcopal Day experience before looking ahead.

This year’s Connection & Reflection Day began with a cozy pizza lunch at Head of School Ms. Grieve’s home, where students gathered to share stories and enjoy time together outside of the classroom. From there, they visited Charles House to spend time with their Kindergarten buddies—reading stories, creating crafts, and offering encouragement to the youngest members of our community. The day continued with a hands-on challenge, where students designed and built paper airplane launchers, competing to see whose plane could fly the farthest. The mix of laughter, collaboration, and friendly competition captured the spirit of our school—a place where learning is joyful and relationships run deep.

Finally, the day concluded in the Chapel, where students reflected on their time at Episcopal Day, the friendships they’ve built, and the road ahead. More than just a pause before high school, this moment of reflection is a meaningful reminder that growth isn’t just about academic achievements—it’s about the relationships, experiences, and values that shape us along the way.

At Episcopal Day, we believe that education is more than just preparation for what’s next—it’s about fostering curiosity, connection, and a lifelong love of learning. To our 8th graders: we are so proud of you and can’t wait to see all that you accomplish! And to our entire community, thank you for celebrating this moment with us
