May Day 2025 - A Joyful Tradition
A Joyful Tradition: Celebrating Our 72nd Annual May Day
On Thursday, May 23, the Episcopal Day School community gathered to celebrate one of our most beloved and enduring traditions—our 72nd Annual May Day.
It’s hard to describe the “May Day feeling” to someone who hasn’t experienced it. It’s a celebration, yes—but also a reflection of who we are as a school: joyful, tight-knit, rooted in tradition, and full of heart.
The day began in Chapel, where our eighth graders led a beautiful, student-crafted service. Through thoughtful reflections and heartfelt words, they shared what their years at Episcopal Day have meant to them, offering a glimpse into their growth, gratitude, and leadership as they prepare to graduate.
From there, the entire school recessed out to Mustang Meadow for a dance performance that’s been months in the making. Each class from Pre-K through 6th grade took to the lawn to perform a choreographed dance—each one a tribute to our soon-to-be graduates and a celebration of community, movement, and joy.
This year’s dance lineup included:
-
Pre-Kindergarten – There’s a Little Wheel Turnin’ in My Heart
-
Kindergarten – Tie a Yellow Ribbon
-
1st Grade – Cross Dance
-
2nd Grade – Skip to My Lou
-
3rd Grade – Sir Duke
-
4th Grade – Best Song Ever
-
5th Grade – September
-
6th Grade – Hey Ya!
The final performance of the morning was the Maypole—a signature part of this tradition—performed by our sixth graders with support from Pre-K. With flowing ribbons and carefully woven steps, the dance brought beauty, elegance, and a deep sense of connection to the day.
May Day is more than a performance. It’s a reminder of the ways our students grow, the community we nurture, and the memories we build together. We are so grateful to our faculty and staff for guiding our students through this tradition with care, and to our families for joining us in celebration. It was, truly, the best day ever.
