Meet Our New School Chaplain

Meet Our New School Chaplain

The Episcopal Day Community, in partnership with Fr. Eric Hinds, is delighted to announce that Doug Jolly will serve as Episcopal Day School’s next Chaplain.

Doug emerged as the top candidate in a highly competitive national search. The position was posted through the Diocese of California, the National Association of Episcopal Schools, the National Association of Independent Schools, and several independent search firms. We received over 100 applications and conducted an extensive vetting process of both ordained and lay candidates. Three outstanding finalists were invited to campus, and Doug rose to the top.

Doug steps into this role called by his deep Episcopal faith and his love for Episcopal Day School. He is the son and grandson of pastors and pursued his intellectual and spiritual calling through a Religious Studies major at Occidental College. Throughout his adult life, he has served as a leader in Episcopal churches and schools. Doug and his family are active members of Transfiguration Episcopal Church in San Mateo.

Fr. Eric’s words beautifully capture Doug’s essence:

“His great strength is his 30 years of experience as an educator and school leader who has distinguished himself by his abiding care, compassion, guidance, and inspiration. In Doug, I believe we have found an exceptional individual to serve as our School Chaplain.”

With over three decades of experience in education, Doug has most recently served as Director of Middle School at Episcopal Day. His previous roles include Director of Residential Life at St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju in South Korea and Dean of Students at Polytechnic School in Pasadena.

Doug shares his heartfelt enthusiasm for this next chapter:

“I am thrilled to be the next School Chaplain at Episcopal Day, and I look forward to serving the school as we continue to build an amazing community of inclusion, centered in our Episcopal values. I am excited to return to the classroom to teach religion classes, to lead Chapel, to partner with Fr. Eric and the Church community, to further our service learning efforts, and especially to serve in a pastoral relationship with students, faculty, professional community, and families. I will honor the tradition of Episcopal Day School, and I look forward to being a transformational Chaplain for our school.”

Doug believes deeply in the potential of every child. He listens with intention, honors each person’s story, and leads with grace, service, and integrity. He will guide our service learning initiatives with passion and purpose. He will hold sacred our Chapel traditions while helping to shape the future of our Chapel program with vision and creativity.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Doug Jolly to his new role as Chaplain of Episcopal Day School.
