The Power of Music: Sound Impact at EDS
Music has always been more than just sound—it’s a force for unity, resistance, and transformation. This month, our middle schoolers had the incredible opportunity to experience Sound Impact, a powerful musical assembly brought to campus through @MusicatKohl. Inspired by Ms. Eggert’s 7th-grade Protest Music unit, this event explored how music has shaped history and sparked movements across time.
Through a stunning blend of performances and storytelling, musicians wove together history, activism, and artistry—bringing to life the works of Beethoven, Myroslav Skoryk, Jean Sibelius, Ethel Smyth, Sergei Taneyev, David Arben, Carlos Simon, and more. Students witnessed firsthand how melodies have fueled revolutions, uplifted communities, and become anthems of resilience, from the labor songs of Cesar Chavez’s movement to Lift Every Voice and Sing, a song deeply rooted in Black empowerment and justice.
But this was more than just a performance—it was a call to listen deeply, think critically, and recognize the role of music in shaping the world around us. Our students engaged with incredible depth, asking thoughtful questions, making powerful connections, and leaving inspired to reflect on the influence of music in their own lives.
A huge shoutout to Ms. Eggert for her dedication to bridging our music curriculum with the world beyond our classrooms—showing students that music isn’t just something we listen to, but something that tells stories, sparks change, and shapes history.
