Kindergarten Raises Over $100 for Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA
Kindergarten has been busy practicing their coin counting skills in preparation for a bake sale. Although a bake sale might sound scrumptious, these treats were made for none other than furry friends!
Using their measurement and fine motor skills, Kindergarten students worked hard with teachers Ms. Byrne and Ms. Martens to measure flour and roll out dough for dog treats in the shapes of bones, pups, and paws. In addition to baking dog treats, students created beaded necklaces, animal paintings, and animal sculptures to sell, and signs to advertise.
For one week Kindergarten sold their items to parents, faculty, and staff while practicing their coin counting skills in a real-life setting. Students used their number sense and skip counting skills to count the quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies in exchange for their items.
In addition to selling their charming hand-made items, Kindergarten hosted a donation drive collecting items for local pets in need including dog greats, toys, blankets, and towels from the SPCA wishlist.
With sales and donations, Kindergarten raised $118.96 for the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA. We are so proud of our young mathematicians and service learners.
